About

It started with a full bin and no obvious answer.

Our founder lives in Salford. A sharps container in the house filled up, and finding a clear, convenient way to dispose of it turned out to be surprisingly hard. Local guidance was inconsistent, the pharmacy route was not straightforward, and answers online contradicted each other.

Asking around made it worse. Friends and family described the same confusion, and some said they had ended up putting sharps in household waste because no obvious alternative presented itself. That is what he heard from people around him — not a measured national figure — but it pointed at something bigger. Household sharps disposal in the UK depends on where you happen to live, and the people it affects are already managing a treatment at home.

SharpsSwap exists to make that next step simple: one place to arrange a collection or container exchange, reorder the supplies you actually use, and see what happened to your container. Households can pay for it themselves, or a clinic, pharmacy, council or NHS organisation can fund it for the people they support, with SharpsSwap running the service underneath. Collections open area by area, once they can be delivered safely and lawfully.
